21144 Slavery: Songs and Stories This short paper addresses the importance of folk song to slaves in the antebellum south and the revelation of sexual exploitation under slavery in the writings of an escaped woman slave. The songs sung by slaves came from the Christian traditions of the southern white plantation culture. The underlying messages blacks conveyed singing them were likely very different than what white's intended.

21607 A Review of ?The Negro in Pennsylvania History? This paper provides an exploration of slavery in the book "The Negro in Pennsylvania History". This book is a hard-to-find pamphlet which identifies slavery as creating specific conditions which defined the status of slaves in Pennsylvania. However, Pennsylvania is neither a purely abolitionist state nor were African- Americans trapped by these conditions.
